Thank you Sanal for inviting me to speak among this brilliant group of thought leaders! 💡 Sharing my thoughts and ideas on how immersive experiences converge with mindfulness is a passion of mine ❤️🔥 The rising popularity of immersive experiences to me suggests a subtle societal shift in people’s perceptions of their existence. An awakening. Rather than see “immersive” as a ubiquitous buzzword, I see it as a call for people to find new ways to self realize, and opportunities for them to do so in their everyday lives and in imagined realities. 🌟 People are seeking permission to be present, drawn to the awareness of transcending from one reality to another. And by doing so, sometimes getting chances to feel seen and accepted; a welcoming feeling desperately needed in our world. All of this is the power of the ineffable mindfulness of immersion.. hidden in each and every immersive experience. Go now and seek them out! The Immersive World Adventure in Tulum, by Epic Immersive truly lived up to its name 🌎 It was a combination of a summit, conference, retreat, and a multilayered experiential, immersive, interactive, Shakespearean theatrical event that took place over four days 🎤📓📝🎭🔥✨ All of us creators, speakers, performers, and guests moved together through this experience as an ensemble. Together we performed, explored, and experienced ancient and contemporary rituals creating profound connections. Immersing ourselves in our journeys, blurring the lines between real and imaginary worlds 🗺️ It was profoundly life changing to say the least. ❤️🔥 And a true testament of what immersive experiences can do. It’s all about framing 🖼️ A frame, like a proscenium, is an indication, a presentation of something the artist wants the audience to pay attention to. It is also a clear delineation of a beginning, a middle, and an end of an experience. In immersive, all of existence and the experience of it are potentially at play. By providing proper parameters for how your audience are to immerse, it is like creating a frame letting them know where the “art” is hanging upon the wall. Giving them permission for presence, knowing how to immerse themselves in what you’ve made Remember: Immersive all happens in your audience’s mind. You just have to make them aware of it. #immersivedesign #permissionforpresence

Any and every “immersive experience” is “human centric” How come? A human is being immersed in that experience 👤 “Human centric” could almost BE the definition of most experiences that we all call “immersive” Unless it’s designing for some other animal, like cats. Any catcon exhibitors out there make some meows! 🐱 But seriously, think about this when creating your “immersive experience“: - who is the person you are wanting to immerse? Start with that! ✔️ Only then can you gather some great clues as to how best to immerse them. Remember always: the experience of being immersed is an individual experience; it can only happen to one person at a time. Like you reading this post right now ✨ Who are you immersing? Sure, we’re all the main characters of our own lifelong immersive experience, but what about all those other people we see? In a film or TV show you would watch, they would be the background actors aka extras as you focus on the protagonist, in a video game, they would be the NPCs helping your avatar/character. In life, they are strangers or friends you haven’t met yet, to paraphrase Yeats. It’s very telling that it’s been normalized to treat background actors on sets as secondary citizens. Even more so that the term NPC has become derogatory, as they are often jokingly mistreated in video games as inconsequential nonbeings. As their name states they aren’t the player, so why do they even matter as much? We live our day to day (depending on our location) amidst a sea of people we will never fully get to know. Interaction is an opportunity to remember that all you meet are just as much individuals and masters of their own universe as the protagonist that is you. For over a decade I've performed in roles that could basically be called NPCs for live immersive interactive experiences. I found each time acting in these “supporting” roles there's the chance to conversely awake audience members/ “players” into realizing that there are actual living people beyond their own solitary experiences. While playing out our immersive game called life, it is easy to fall into solipsism and forget that it is indeed the ones we meet that reflect our humanity and add so much to our otherwise individual/lonely existences. What immersive works can teach is that the awareness granted to those immersed and present is a chance to connect to what is there, rather than impose a predetermined existence upon it. So here’s to recognizing strangers, background players, and NPCs, as true contributors and dedicated facilitators of the player experience, rather than as mere “extras,” when they are all very much part of the whole. Their role is vital, and their contribution is as significant as the participants they serve. Your story continues.. #️⃣✨

There's some immersive thing, it's "immersive" 🎭 🥃 👻 The term "immersive" is everywhere, but what are we getting immersed into? That's what's really interesting to me. And after years of working on scores of these kinds of shows, I've noticed that what essentially is happening there is that: you're being asked to become present to the moment, to be here now, like you are here, right now, reading this post. 📲 See? I just immersed you! 😮 With this in mind, people have the power to "immerse" other people simply by giving them permission to be present. Which is why I believe the most important aspect of an immersive show are the people in it. The humans connecting directly with you.
